Tip From the Archives
Your Tee Box
Problem
You get distracted or stressed out on the tee box by other players.
Cure
Instead of dwelling on what people are doing or even saying while they wait for you to tee off, change your focus on planning out the details about your shot. Where exactly do you want the ball to land? How high of a trajectory do you desire? Which club would allow you to achieve this shot? How high will you need to tee up the ball?
Therapy
As you step onto the tee box, imagine that there is a rope or a wall blocking off the tee box on both sides and from behind you. Nothing and nobody exists beyond this point. This will allow you to acknowledge only on achieving the shot you have already decided on making. As you set up to the ball, visualize how the ball will fly to the target and where exactly you imagine it landing. Take a deep breath and just as you exhale, start to take the club back into your swing.
