Tip From the Archives
Worst Shot
Problem
You have one shot or club that you cannot make and dread it every time you play.
Cure
You should know the exact areas that you do not want the ball to land because this would mean you would have to play this club. Now instead of focusing on these areas, think of them as hazards and plan how you will play around them. This means you will need to start your plan as you are looking at the fairway from the tee box and determine where you want each shot to land based on your abilities. Be realistic about your usual playing abilities and readjust your plan as necessary.
Therapy
If you end up having to play this shot or use your most feared club, either club up or down that you can hit better. If you select a longer club, move your hands down the shaft to help shorten the club and you might also want to open the clubface to add a little loft. Now simply take your normal swing with this club. Later, practice or see a pro to help you determine if there is a swing error that is causing you to hit this shot poorly. It might be something as simple of needing to move the ball in your stance to help improve your contact.
