Tip From the Archives
Work the Wind
Problem
You have a hard time playing in the wind.
Cure
Instead of playing in spite of the wind or trying to overcome it, try to figure out how to use the wind to your advantage. By playing with the wind, you will be able to have a more predictable outcome and regain control over your swing. So, if the wind is blowing right to left, find a safe target area that will allow you to play the ball so that it flies a little right to left.
Therapy
Downwind, tee the ball higher and stay behind the ball a little longer to help get the ball up higher for more travel. For a more predictable downwind shot, tee the ball lower and place the ball back in your stance a little. With the wind blowing on your back, you might want to use your 3 wood for better loft so the wind can carry it further. Keep your hands ahead of the ball when the wind is blowing towards your face.
I find that if I don't swing as hard into the wind it keeps the ball lower (not as much backspin) and avoids it balooning in the wind. HB Texas
