With Long Leverage, Gain Great Power
Problem
Need for more power and distance.
Cure
Use a wide and constant swing arch. As you take your backswing, be sure that you do not whip the club back or force it to lift prematurely.
Therapy
Position your feet shoulder width apart with your weight placed evenly on the balls of your feet. Turn your forward heel out a little more than the back. Take a natural but wide backswing while extending your left arm to create a wide arc. Turning your shoulders twice as far as your hips is key to producing the torque necessary for a powerful swing. You should notice as you are completely turned that your left shoulder will be under your chin, your right arm will feel as if it is floating up, and your left knee should be behind the ball. Allow your left knee and hip to begin the downswing and be certain that you maintain the swing arc as you approach the ball. The plane of your downswing should shallow and you need to maintain your wrist cock as your right elbow brushes your side. Your hips should feel as if they snap to face the target as your left leg straightens to help release the pressure of the swing. Your head will still be behind the ball with a straight left arm as you reach impact. As you unwind with a full extension past the ball, your right shoulder should rotate under your chin and your left arm should feel as if it is now floating up.
