Why Posture is So Important
Problem
You suffer from inconsistency problems due to poor posture. For instance, if you bend over too much, it will cause you to hit the ball fat. If you stand too straight, you are likely to shank the ball or hit it thin.
Cure
Maintaining proper posture throughout the entire swing will improve arm extension, contact with the ball, and compression with iron shots. Make sure that you rotate your hips towards the target to allow enough room for your chest to stay out above the ball at impact. This will help the bottom of your clubhead to make a level contact across the ground and provide enough room for your arms to extend for a complete follow through.
Therapy
Stand up so your back and legs are straight, shoulders are back, and your chin is down a little but well off of your chest. Place your hands onto your hip bone and push your hips back so that the buttons on your back pant pockets move up towards the sky. Now bend your knees just slightly, enough to allow you to feel your body weight on the insides of your legs as your knees turn in just a little. Double check that your shoulders are back and your chest is spread wide. You might feel a little awkward so now allow your arms to hang down tension free and this should relax your hands and body. It is natural that your head and upper spine tilts forward a little as your shoulders are a little rounded after you have allowed your arms to relax. Grip the club with both hands as you normally would and make sure that you have the same posture that you have just established. You should notice that your trailing hand is a little lower on the club and therefore that shoulder is slightly lower than the other.
