Weight on Heels

Problem

You hook the ball and notice that you almost drag the club back, inside of the target line.

Cure

Check your posture at set up to make sure your bodyweight is set towards the front of the arches of your feet. When you set your weight too far back, on your heels, it will cause you to hook the ball. This is because when your weight leaning back, you are have too flat of a swinging plane around your body and too far inside of the target line.

Therapy

A good way to check to see if your plane is off during your backswing is to grip the club with a two inch gap between them. Take the club back halfway and then cock your wrists up. You want the club pointing up, so that the shaft appears to be between your forearms. After cocking your wrists at this point in your swing, if you find that the clubshaft is pointing behind your body, you know that you have a poor swing plane.
