Weight Back
Problem
You plan on trying to add a little more power to your drives.
Cure
Take a wider stance to prevent a loss of balance with a more powerful swing. Make a smooth backswing and avoid allowing your arms to swing too fast. It is important that you keep a good rhythm with your arms and body working together.
Therapy
Try to keep a little extra weight on your trailing leg as you approach impact. If you are able to keep your upper body behind the ball during the downswing then you can apply a little more power into the ball. Continue to move your body weight onto your forward foot as start the follow through and have all of your weight shifted by the time you complete it. However, make sure that the upper body does not pass over your feet at anytime during the swing or you will lose distance.
One thing many give no thought to, is the tilt of the body towards the trailing side during set up, and prior to starting the swing. This almost ensures everything that this article is trying to avoid, happens, every time. Try what I converted to several months ago to devastating effect.Once set up, ground the club between 3 to 6 inches behind the ball, square to the target line. Then slide the club behind the ball and allow the body to naturally tilt towards the trailing side. This will feel totally alien to most who do not already pay attention to the tilt, believing that the Right hand (in right handed players)being below the left is enough tilt.It isn't. I have found that after decades of frustration. I now strike the ball beautifully EVERY time! Try it.
