Tip From the Archives

Wedge Tempo

Problem

You have difficulty hitting your wedges.

Cure

Instead of just trying to gain the most distance out of your driver, spend more time on the driving range working with your wedges.

Therapy

When you spend most of your practice time with your driver, it ingrains the swing style and tempo into your mind and muscle memory. When you switch to using your wedges, you lack proper feel and control. So, actively spend some time working on your tempo with each of the wedges you normally carry in your bag.

I have already done that every time now at the range. The results at seeing the balls peppering the pins consistently breeds confidence.Practice at home with sponge balls, whiffle balls and even balls which when struck stick to the thick curtains! So checks on trajectory are a breeze. Same swing tempo makes the 'big dog' much easier to handle off the tee,ie a win-win situation.
