Tip From the Archives
Wedge Catch
Problem
You lose power when pitching due to excessive hinging of the wrists. This causes your swinging arc to become too narrow.
Cure
Try to limit the amount of wrist hinge and create better arm extension by having someone catch your pitching wedge during the backswing.
Therapy
Have a friend stand about six feet behind you. Swing the club back slow enough for your friend to catch it in their hands. You should see an early wrist hinge when your friend catches the club, as you need when using a pitching wedge. Now repeat this motion and have them catch and pull to help encourage a proper feel for arm extension during your backswing. Try to repeat this feeling as you take a few practice swings.
