Wall Posture Test

Problem

You are losing distance off of the teebox and want to test check to see if your posture is at fault.

Cure

One important thing to look for is to make sure your chin is up away from your chest. This will help your back feel tall and to allow your leading shoulder to move easily under your chin during the backswing. Flex your knees. Keep your back straight, bend enough at your hips so that your shoulders are over the arch of your shoes. You will want your arms to hang under your chin.

Therapy

Double check your posture at home using any flat wall. Stand up straight with your back about 10 inches away from a wall. Bend your knees as if you are setting up to a ball and allow your lower back to contact the wall. Hold your arms straight out to your sides and bend your arms so that just your forearms and hands are pointing up. Press your hands, arms, and shoulders against the wall. This will be difficult to do if you have poor posture.

Try putting a club shaft down your back. Have your head and tail bone and back touching the shaft. Then lean forward at the same time flexing your knees slightly. This you can practice at the range or even on the course (as long as you don't hold folk up). It helps a lot. I didn't realize how far my chin had sunk onto my upper chest, restricting a free shoulder turn. The increase in timing and power was immediately noticable. Smiles all around.
