Using a Tee on a Par Three

Problem

You are uncertain if you should be using a tee on a par-3.

Cure

Many professionals suggest that you do not use a tee on a par-3. This is because you are more accustomed to using your irons directly off of the ground due to the number of times you use them out on the fairway. Of course, you will be most successful when you utilize the shot that you are the most comfortable with.

Therapy

When you are trying to make the decision to use a tee on a par 3, you need to consider the type of contact that you wish to achieve. If you do not use a tee, grass will get in between the clubface and the ball at contact. Whereas you will have clean contact and added distance of about 20 yards with the ball teed up. If it is windy, you might be willing to sacrifice the added distance to help gain more control over your tee shot by hitting directly off of the ground.

Thats not true, that will only happen if your ball is in high grass (the rough)..a properly struck ball right off the short turf, the club face will hit the ball first, and then the ground,as it starts to take a divot.
