Tip From the Archives

Use Your Swing

Problem

You hook or slice the ball but do not have the time to correct it before playing your next round or tournament.

Cure

Practice hitting as many balls as possible before your next round to get a feel for where the balls are going. Then use this knowledge and base your shots around it. Then correct the fault as soon as you have time to do so.

Therapy

Use a yardage marker or any other object to aim at and practice hitting several balls. Look to see how far out the ball goes before it begins to curve and use the target to assess how far to the right or left it is when it curves and lands. Knowing how far out the ball flies before it curves can be very helpful when you are trying to make it around a dogleg or obstacle. If you know the ball will go too far to the left or right then you can adjust your aim to land the ball closer to the target.
