Unintentional Fades

Problem

You fade the ball a lot, even when you do not intend to.

Cure

Chances are, you are turning or holding the clubface open at contact. So, work on getting the clubface square in the hitting zone.

Therapy

Set your shoe bag on the ground on the outside of your swing path so that it is opposite of the toe on your trailing foot. Use one of your middle irons and focus on the rotation of your forearms at impact. As you approach impact, you want your forearms to rotate the club so that the toe moves across the edge of bag. After contacting the ball, you want the clubface to close into your follow through. Whenever you start hitting unintentional fades, just pretend you need to brush across the bag with the toe of the club.

I fight this issue all of the time. I have found it comes from a slight sliding move just before contact which promotes an open club face. If I can make a good turn with my head staying behind the ball, I release the club and my hands will turn over, and I get a straight shot or a slight draw. I also have a fade what I'm trying for more distance. Trying to get my club paralel I cup my left wrist and get too hansy.
