Two Breaks

Problem

As you approach the green, you notice that there are two different breaks in the green between your ball and the flag.

Cure

It is good that you have identified two major breaks along your line. Use this as a starting point to determine which way each break will direct the ball once it rolls past it to help access your line overall.

Therapy

Walk along your line up to the point of the first break. Stop there to imagine that you are about to start your put at this location to help visualize how the ball would roll from this point towards the hole. Take a practice stroke from the first break to help you imagine how the ball will roll from this location. Will the ball really come across that second break? If so, where exactly? Walk along the line and make a practice stroke near second break to get a feel for the distance and imagine how the ball will roll from the second break into the hole. Where exactly will it enter the cup? Walk along side the line back to the ball. Feel the slope with your feet to get a sense of how it will affect the roll. Use this information to help you access where gravity will increase the speed of the ball into the hole. As you set up to the ball do not focus on the cup location. Simply find a spot a few feet ahead of you that is along your line to use for aiming.
