Tripod Putting
Problem
Your putting stroke is often jerky or outside of the intended putting line. This could be caused by placing your bodyweight onto your putter, forming a tripod setup.
Cure
Do not form a tripod with your putter by placing any weight onto the putter head. All of your weight should be centered onto your feet. Your arms should be so relaxed that it feels as if they are hanging from your body.
Therapy
Place your weight onto the balls of your feet at address. Now allow your body to relax so that your eyes are parallel to or directly over the target line. Many players who suffer from the yips have a swing that is outside of their target line due to poor eye alignment. If your eyes are past the target line, then your swing will end up being outside of the target line as well. You need to establish good posture to help your arms to hang freely for a more solid stroke. When you stand too tall or crouched over then your arms have to compensate for it during your putting stroke, causing poor contact.
