Toe Sand Trick
Problem
The ball is buried in the side of the hill in a greenside sand bunker. Luckily, the lip is not hanging over the ball.
Cure
Since the lip is not hanging over the ball, you have enough room to get the club down, under ball. Use the toe of the club to get the ball out of the sand. This can be a scary shot because the face of the club will be pointing towards your legs and not the target. However, as long as you swing your arms towards the target, the sand and the ball will land up on the green.
Therapy
Set your legs so that your hips and shoulders are aligned with the slope of the hill. Turn the toe of the club so that you hit the sand into the outside of the ball by about an inch. Take a strong swing to get a large amount of sand to move the ball out. Remember, because you are going to move the club into the sand, there will not be a direct contact between the ball and the club. You are simply moving the sand and the ball, up onto the green by using the toe of the club.
