Timing the Stroke
Problem
You need to get a better feel for the golf swing.
Cure
Learn to time the stroke and you will gain a better feel for a fluid swing.
Therapy
The best way to work on your timing is to start with your shortest swing and work your way up to the longest swing. So start with your putter. Instead of trying to direct the clubhead along the path, just swing the club back and through while allowing your mind to identify where the club is located during the swing. What is your average length for this swing? How many seconds does it normally take you to bring the club all the way back, return it to impact, and past into the follow through? What is the average amount of time to take the club into all of these positions? By knowing these factors, it will help you realize when you are rushing your swing or losing your tempo out on the course. By becoming aware of the normal swing length and timing, you will improve your feel for the swing and when it is out of sync.
