Tip From the Archives

Tight Chip

Problem

The ball landed in a spot with very little grass or in a tight lie next to the green.

Cure

Try to get the club up more vertical so the toe the club rests on the ground a little and tilt the face forward for a cleaner hit.

Therapy

Place the ball well back in your stance so your hands are ahead of the ball. It might sound a too far back, but you should play this shot with the ball placed so it is even with the center of your back foot. Make sure the club is standing upright, more like a putter and use a long putting stroke.
