Tip From the Archives
Throw It
Problem
You want to improve the movement of your trailing arm.
Cure
Try tossing a ball underhand across your body, just as your arm should move during the swing.
Therapy
Set up without a club, with ball in your trailing hand. Allow both hands to hang in front of you as if you are going to swing a club. Swing only your trailing arm back in a swinging motion. Swing the ball forwards but as you do, toss the ball towards the target with an underhand throw.
I find it much better and describe it like skimming a flat stone on a lake or pond, rather than throwing a ball underhand This gives the head behind the ball position and shallows out the plane, making the impact position absolutely perfect (and beyond of course) and you finish in the same position the top pro's do,without effort. You can successfully throw a ball without cocking the wrist, but you can't skim a stone without cocking the wrist on the 'trailing arm'.This for me is my extra bonus to a good tip
