Tip From the Archives
The Steep Uphill Shot
Problem
Your ball landed in a grassy bank about ten yards away from the pin. However, you now have a steep uphill shot to get it up onto the green.
Cure
You will need to produce a high shot that stops dead on the green.
Therapy
Use a sand wedge or the highest lofted club in your bag. Take an open stance so your arms can move freely. Place the ball off of the inside of your forward heel. Keep your wrists quiet as you take a short backswing. The clubface should be pointing towards the sky at contact and swing up the slope as you take your follow through.
Just tried this the other day and it works great. This also works for bunker shots where you ball is near the lip, or if you need to get up and down from a green side bunker. Open the club face and cut across the ball. It goes straight up, and straight down. Great for certain shots and it's quite easy to do.
