The Steep Slope

Problem

The ball is sitting on a steep slope with your forward leg lower than your trailing leg and you usually cannot hit from a lie like this.

Cure

The key of this shot is that you cannot allow your upper body to lean back during your swing in an attempt to remain balanced or to get the ball up; many players do this without even noticing it.

Therapy

As with any uneven lie, you want to align your shoulders and hips with the slope of the hill. Bend your higher leg if needed to get them aligned with the ground. It should feel as if you are leaning down with the slope. Open the clubface and swing with the slope. Remember, you want to keep your shoulders aligned with the hill from start to finish; so do not allow your upper body to lean back, away from the target. Make sure you swing within yourself because you swing too hard, you might unintentionally lean back due to a fear of falling down the hill.
