The Softball Drill
Problem
You are slicing for an unknown reason. Your shoulders might be more open to the target than your hips at contact or you swing on an out-to-in path, causing contact off of the center of the clubface, resulting in a slice.
Cure
The more you simplify your swing, the more efficient your body movements will become, and the more your swing will improve. Imagine holding a softball as you practice your swing. Use a weighted sports ball or a soft ball while swinging to help increase your stamina, strength, and train your body to make smoother motions.
Therapy
Take a proper golf posture while holding the ball with your thumbs touching. Allow your arms to relax as you practice your golf swing. Focus on coordinating the movements of your arms with your body. Let your elbows bend a little so that your forearms hang at forty-five degree angle. Make sure that your arms stay in front of the center of your chest throughout the swing. This will help synchronize the movements of your upper body and arms so that they move more as a solid unit. Your upper body should coil behind the imaginary golf ball and then shift forward and unwind smoothly. As you reach the point of impact, your hips should be open just a little while your shoulders are square to the target. If your hips are not open more than your shoulders, then it will lead to a slice.
