Tip From the Archives
The Rough Flyer
Problem
You have a flyer lie in the thin or shorter rough.
Cure
You do not need to nail down on the ball in order to get it out with this lie as you would in the thick or tall rough grass. So, avoid taking the club back and up too quickly. This is because if your swing is too fast or steep, it will cause you to chunk the shot.
Therapy
It is common for a player to use a more aggressive swing with a more lofted club than they would normally use from this lie. Use the appropriate club for the distance to help avoid chunking the ball. Lighten your grip and allow your arms to relax. Keep your body upright and stable throughout the shot. It is okay to allow our body to turn with the swing but do not allow it to happen too quickly. You should see it gently land on the green.
