The Perfect Shot
Problem
We love it when we make the perfect shot and often expect it to happen again every time we try to repeat it. When you fail duplicate that shot it causes your game to fall apart.
Cure
You are absolutely correct to focus and plan the shot to land just where you want it to. The actual problem begins is when you depend on the perfect shot and it does not happen. This sets you back mentally and will cause you to add on more strokes than you would have had if you were more realistic about the shot.
Therapy
If you hit the ball perfectly, it will land exactly where you need it to land. If you do not, then the ball could land in the water, sand, or in the woods. Practice and learn your average distance and abilities for each club in your bag. Expect that your shots on the course will land as you have practiced them and leave room for the ball to land up to ten yards in any direction from that point. If a hazard falls within that range, play it safe by taking a lesser club. This will leave you sitting at a playable point and will end up with less strokes overall because you did. Remember, the smarter you play, the lower your score will be at the end of the game.
I am a beginner, and this is a problem I am having with my game. I am over thinking and then stressing when I don't hit the ball exactly where I want/need it to land. Practice is the key, and I'm working on the mental part!
