Tip From the Archives
The Digger
Problem
You are taking deep divots with your irons.
Cure
The key for making divots is that you want the club to move through the ground a little and should not dig down deep. Two likely causes for deep divots are from either taking too steep of a swing or you do not have enough bounce in your irons.
Therapy
If you feel your swing is too steep, check to make sure you have enough tilt in your upper body and knee bend. Try swinging more around your body to help shallow out your swing. If you feel that you are not taking too steep of a swing then check the bounce of the club. When you do not have enough bounce, it will cause you to dig deep into the dirt out, decelerating and possibly redirecting the movement of the clubhead. Test or borrow a set of clubs with more bounce and see if this helps reduce the divot size.
