Tip From the Archives
The Big Cut
Problem
You could use a slight fade but ball is sitting down in the grass and you are still over 200 yards away from the pin.
Cure
Instead of playing an iron for loft and risk losing the distance you need, try using your 4 wood to make a cut shot. This will help the ball fly higher and stop quicker than a normal fade shot.
Therapy
You will need to take a stronger grip to help prevent the clubface from turning in the grass. Place the ball about an inch behind your forward foot. Use an open clubface and stance. You should be aimed 25 or more yards left of the green. Turn your forward foot out more than usual. Make a compacted swing with strong shoulder turn. Allow the club to swing slightly outside of the target line. Pull or beat the club down onto the back of the ball so that you cut across it.
