Tennis Ball Drill
Problem
The ball slides instead of rolls on the green due to having too much backspin while putting.
Cure
Your stroke might be too low to the ground, causing you to hit too low on the golf ball. Try putting with different sized balls to help reinforce how important it is to hit the center of the ball.
Therapy
A tennis ball would be ideal to use because it is larger so it should help improve your focus on trying to make contact with the center of the ball. Start out by hitting the ball too high and you will see plenty of roll. Now hit it too low and you will see the ball scoot or slide across the green. Then practice making contact with the center of the ball. Take out a golf ball and practice making contact just above the center of the ball. Anytime you find the ball sliding instead of rolling across the green, take that as a cue that you need to start hitting higher on the golf ball.
