Tee Tension

Problem

You have difficulty relaxing just before an important tee shot or first round of the day.

Cure

Take a few extra seconds before starting your preshot routine to relax. Once you do, complete your preshot routine as usual, thinking of the feeling you just had and of successful drive.

Therapy

A quick and easy way to relax your upper body before teeing off is to sweep the club so that it brushes lightly against the top of the blades of grass. When your arms are tense, it will cause you to put too much pressure on the club and therefore move it into the ground. In contrast, if you want to lightly brush the top of the grass, you need to allow your arms to relax enough to do this. Plus in addition to relaxing your arms, you are more likely to stand taller with your weight evenly distributed in the arches of your feet for a longer and more balanced swing.
