Tall Grass is Rough

Problem

The tall grass is wrapped around your ball or is sitting in the rough.

Cure

A cut shot is great in this situation. Use a club with plenty of loft and catch the ball at the bottom of your clubface to help get it up and out of the rough. Do not use a club longer than a 7 iron to attempt this shot.

Therapy

You will need to use an open clubface for loft but you should be prepared for a slight fade. Move the ball back in your stance and cock the club up steeply. Make sure that you do not release the club too early or you will make contact with the grass instead of the ball and lose speed. Hit hard on the ball so it will fly out of the grass with ease. If you are close to the green, use a higher lofted club and swing with about seventy percent of the power you normally would to avoid hitting past the pin. Keep in mind that the lower this shot launches, the more grass you will need to pass in order to make contact with the ball and therefore the more power you will need to get out of the rough.
