Swing a Rope
Problem
You cannot afford any expensive learning tools but would like to improve your golf swing.
Cure
Use a rope to practice generating speed during your swing.
Therapy
Spin a rope out in front of your body in a circle. Naturally because it is pivoting around your hand, the end of the rope will whip through last. This is the same goal you should have while using a golf club. You want the clubhead to move through impact last just as you want the end of the rope to move through last. Practice swinging a rope or a long towel like you would a golf club. Notice that the faster you unwind, the faster the rope will whip through. If you are worried about snapping your back with the rope, simply hold both ends of the rope until you start your downswing. Release the rope from your trailing hand and allow it to move down on its own. Try to get the greatest speed and a whooshing sound several inches past the bottom of your swing. This is a great sign that you are generating lots of speed.
Even if you could afford expensive learning tools, Swing a Rope sounds like a good drill to improve tempo. Another thought: swing your club like it was a rock on the end of a rope. It will help you with a gradual transition.
