Tip From the Archives
Strict Boundaries
Problem
You need to improve on consistency on the tee box.
Cure
Narrow your focus to a specific target area while practicing. With a higher standard of what boundaries are acceptable will allow you to hone in your accuracy skills more. Then work on repeating the same good shot several times in a row.
Therapy
What is the furthest that you can hit with your driver? Subtract 50 yards from this distance and select a small area on the fairway or range that is at this yardage point. You must hit at it until you can land the ball in the same area five times in a row. Work on making a smooth and rhythmic swing. Remember to shift your weight on to your front leg during your downswing. Instead of playing out the hole, move on to the next tee. At this tee box, find a location to hit at that is about 150 yards away. Continue this drill by alternating the distance between shorter drives and longer drives on each tee. If you are doing this at the range, you might find it less mundane to change driving stations every 20 minutes so you can have new target areas. Pay close attention to which distances you were most accurate with. You will find this useful when planning your layup positions on the course.
