Tip From the Archives
Straight Putting
Problem
You are cutting across the ball when putting. The ball rolls much slower and off the intended target line.
Cure
You need to move the club straight back, along the target line and make sure that you are hitting through the ball.
Therapy
Lay your putter down onto the putting green face down along the target line to the hole. Starting at about 1/4 of an inch on either side of the putter head, place two parallel rows of six tees into the ground. Each tee should be about three inches away from the other tees. Now pick your putter up and set the clubhead down in the middle of the two rows. Practice swinging the club all the way backwards and forwards without brushing against any of the tees. For shorter distances, start your backstroke a tee or two back from the center but make sure your follow through is the same length as all of the tees. This will help you keep a straight and complete follow through so you avoid coming up short on future holes.
