Stop Flag Hunting

Problem

You aim for the flag every time you play. This can be a problem particularly when the pin is close to the edge of the green because the ball is more likely to bounce or roll off into the rough or a hazard.

Cure

A better way to play is to try to land the ball in the center of the green, regardless of where the pin is located on it. You should always anticipate putting at least once and the distance by a couple of feet seems irrelevant when you risk losing the ball off of the edge and having to chip and then putt instead.

Therapy

To help you stop hunting for the flag on the course, have someone from your group or ask the group ahead of you to leave the flag out of the cup when they finish the hole. You might be surprised to see how much you will improve your game by simply aiming for the green instead of the pin.
