Stiff Grass

Problem

The ball is sitting in stiff, dry grass.

Cure

Practice nearby in similar grass to rehearse your swing. The harder it is to move through the grass, the more important it is for you to take a steeper swing. This will help reduce the chances that the grass will catch the clubhead to turn it or slow the swing down.

Therapy

Move your body a little closer to the ball at set up to encourage a steeper swing. Set the ball an inch ahead of your trailing foot, in your stance. Quickly cock your wrists up during the backswing. Try to hold your wrist hinge as long as you can while you hit down, sharply into the ball. In order to do this, you will need to allow most of the power of this shot to come from your chest and shoulders.
