Tip From the Archives
Steep Putt
Problem
You have a steep, downhill putt.
Cure
To help slow the ball down, you can hit it with the toe of the putter. However, this could risk twisting the putterhead, changing the distance and direction of the putt.
Therapy
The steeper of the hill, the more you want to choke down on the grip to help reduce the speed of the putt. Because this is such a steep downhill putt, you want to choke down on the grip by almost a foot. In addition to shortening the length of your backstroke, make sure you shorten the length of your forward stroke. So, instead of focusing on accelerating as you approach the ball, simply focus on making solid contact with it.
