Tip From the Archives
Stay Warm
Problem
You are playing in the cold weather and notice you cannot hit as far as you usually do.
Cure
The air is thicker in cold weather so the ball will fly slower through cold air. Keep a box of balls warm over night and place a hand warmer with the balls in your bag. Using warm balls will allow them to fly faster and further through the cold air. Be certain to select the least restricting layers as possible. Thermal underwear under khakis and a turtleneck with an outer shell are a great combination. Wear a thick hat to help prevent heat loss. Keep your hands nimble by placing some winter gloves in your back pocket and put them on as soon as you finish each swing.
Therapy
Your muscles stiffen up in the cold and this will prevent you from turning as far back and extending as much as usual. Allow extra time before starting your round to warm up your muscles by doing a few jumping jacks, squat thrusts, and stretches. Walk around as much as possible and forgo the cart to allow you to keep moving between holes.
