Stay Behind the Ball

Problem

You want the ball to fly further off of a tee shot.

Cure

Position yourself so that you stay behind the ball a little longer. Many players try too hard to achieve this and open their swing; causing an improper weight shift, pop-ups, or a fade.

Therapy

The key to successfully executing this shot is to set up without too many adjustments. Widen your stance by moving your back foot an inch or two further back than usual but make sure that it is still parallel to the target. To help hit the ball on your upswing, place the ball forward in your stance so that it is even with inside of your forward heel. Now, simply swing as you normally would.
