Tip From the Archives
Statue of Liberty
Problem
You want more power and notice your swing is rather flat or your arms remain fairly parallel to the ground.
Cure
Try to get your hands in a higher position at the top of your swing to encourage a better arc by having a higher shoulder plane. With your hands higher in the backswing, you will notice that you can get a better turn for more power.
Therapy
Set up to the ball as if you are ready to dribble a basketball. This will get your knees and back in a good position so that your upper body is over the ball a little more. Take a few practice swings while trying to get your forward arm up to the top, so that it feels as if your are swinging your forward arm over your trailing shoulder. It might help to think of the statue of liberty as you do this. Just remember to accelerate through the ball.
