Tip From the Archives
Starting With Arms
Problem
You have a fast swing and are slicing.
Cure
Try to swing within yourself. If you try too hard to add on extra distance or unwind your shoulders too quickly, you will end up slicing the ball.
Therapy
Do not grip the club too hard. Focus on taking the clubhead back square during your backswing. This will set the club on the correct path for square contact with the ball. Be certain that your arms start the forward swing before you begin unwinding your shoulders. Keep your wrists cocked until your hands are waist high. As you approach the ball, focus on returning the clubhead so that it is square to the target.
Push the club away from the ball with the forward hand and arm in the backswing. Keep the hold on the club light and relaxed.Too firm a grip alters the trajectory of the ball flight considerabley.Too firm and the flight is much lower.A relaxed hold on the club allows the club to despatch the ball on the correct trajectory and thus giving a consistent flight and distance. On the downswing, think "Finish" this will help to swing thru' the ball and not at it.
I have always found that tempo and like Michael Henry said above, finish is the key. I imagine someone taking a picture of my finished pose. relaxed hands, good tempo and remember, take a picture. Hope it helps, Hoop
