Tip From the Archives
Stack It
Problem
You want to get the most distance out of your tee shots or you find that you are losing power.
Cure
During your entire swing, make sure that your hips and shoulders do not pass the outside of your feet; because if they do, you will lose power. Think of your body as three sections. The legs are a stationary support with your hips stacked on top, which turn only half as much as the top section, your torso. With all three stacked on top with their individual sections creating the rotation, you should allow your arms to swing freely, simply responding to the torque that they created.
Therapy
Video tape or have a friend watch your drives to ensure that you are swinging inside of your feet. Your hips should rotate about 45 degrees, your shoulders should rotate about 90 degrees and both stay between your feet. If your hips slide towards the target during the forward swing, it will cause the upper body to move outside of your feet and you will lose power. If you are having difficulties keeping your body stacked during the swing, try using a slightly wider stance with your bodyweight placed on the inside of your feet.
