Spot Putting

Problem

You tend to miss the majority of your long putts on the low side of the hole.

Cure

In addition to knowing the break and speed, you need to remember that the break will be the strongest once the ball slows down near the hole. That is when gravity will helps pull the ball down and away from the cup. If you are ever uncertain about the break or are playing on fast greens, this is the time to err on the side of caution and play more break.

Therapy

Look between your ball and the cup. To help focus the degree of a break to expect, decide where the biggest part of the break will occur. Decide exactly where you plan the ball to roll into the cup. This will help you visualize your line better. Now select a location on the break that is at least three feet away. When you take your putt, focus on rolling the ball over this location.
