Tip From the Archives

Soggy Soil

Problem

You cannot hit the club down on the ball because the ground is too wet.

Cure

You should not use any woods because they will dig into the mud. You will need to pick the ball cleanly up off of the ground, so use a steeper swinging plane and try to reduce your leg movements throughout your swing.

Therapy

Club up because you will need to take a three quarter swing or less, this will allow you to sweep the ball and still gain the distance you need to complete this shot. To prevent slipping, make sure you have solid footing and flex your knees just enough to allow you to maintain your balance. You will need to use a steeper swinging plane, so stand tall and open your clubface and stance.
