Soft Greenside Rough

Problem

You have a good lie in the thick rough but need a soft greenside shot so that the ball floats to the green and stops immediately upon landing.

Cure

Only practice will ensure success during your short game. It will pay off a lot if you sacrifice some playing time during the week with the necessary practice time to help make your games more enjoyable.

Therapy

Take an open stance and place the ball off of your forward heel. Aim the clubface so that it is slightly open. Keep your hands just ahead of the ball as you use mostly your arms in a compact backswing. Accelerate your arms during the downswing and make sure you hold the clubface open so that it points towards the sky at impact.
