Tip From the Archives
Snap It
Problem
You feel that you have a good turn but you still need a more powerful swing or just want to hear more of a snap at impact. Plus, you might also notice weak slices and popups.
Cure
For more power, try closing your forward knee at impact by straightening it. This will create the resistance you need for the trailing side of your body to move quickly into the ball. When your forward knee bends or shifts, it will prevent the proper rotation in your hips and you will risk blocking your hands and arms from moving through the swing.
Therapy
Initiate your downswing by moving your hips slightly towards the target. Just make sure that your hips never pass your knees during the swing. Once your hips have moved towards the target a little, use this as a trigger to turn them towards the target. Work on shifting your bodyweight forward during the downswing. Once your arms are lowered to about waist high, straighten your forward leg so that this hip is raised at impact. You should notice it helps you move the forward hip out of the way so your hands and arms can swing freely for a more natural release and get that snapping sound at impact.
Oh and by the way, that "snapping" sound is your ACL tearing. This is why Tiger is out for the year!
