Snap at Impact

Problem

You want to learn how to snap your wrists at impact for more powerful drives.

Cure

Simply cocking your wrists and keeping them hinged as long as possible during the swing will cause them to snap at impact.

Therapy

Set up to the ball as usual. Now cock your wrists up as you take the club back. Maintain this wrist cock during the downswing for as long as possible. You will reach a point where the centrifugal force of a full swing will no longer allow your wrists to remain hinged. At this point, your wrists will snap forward to square the clubhead into the impact zone. Then your wrists should hinge again into the follow through. It may take several times to master this technique but it should pay off in added distance. To help gain the proper sensation of hinging your wrists, try placing a tee in the end of the grip of an eight or nine iron and make half swings. The tee should point down when your arms are parallel with the ground during your backswing and follow through.
