Slow Down Your Irons
Problem
The ball pulls to the right when using your irons due to swinging too fast.
Cure
Chances are you are trying too hard or at the last minute feel that you are going to come short of the green. You need to practice swing with confidence and trust that an effortless swing will provide the appropriate distance for the club at hand.
Therapy
A great drill to practice your iron shots is to empty at least one basket of balls while hitting off of a lowered tee. Now try swinging without the tee and swing as if it is still there. You should notice that you are more likely to make a smooth and accurate shot while squaring the clubface much easier than before. If you are unsure of your distances with each of the irons in your bag, rotate between your lowest three irons on the driving range to get a feel for the distances you obtain for each. After spending about 20 minutes with these irons, switch your lowest club for a higher iron. Continue to cycle through your clubs in order, to help you build confidence in the distances you are likely to achieve on the course. That way, when you are out on the course, you can push all of those last minute doubts out of your mind for a more successful swing.
