Slicing Checklist

Problem

You are slicing the ball.

Cure

There are several different causes for a slice. Compare this checklist to your swing to find your mistakes. You may be standing too far from the ball. Your shoulders open because the ball is too far forward in your stance. Your stance is too narrow, which forces you to swing with your arms instead of your hips during your forward swing. Your clubface could be too open due to placement or because your grip is too weak with your hands twisted too far around the grip. If you are right handed, you are aiming too far left of the target with your feet, hips and shoulders which causing you to swing your club on an out to in swing path. The club goes too much to the inside at the beginning of your backswing and your lead arm goes too much across the chest. Since your arms are unable to move at this point, they lift and go over the top in a slight figure eight motion.

Therapy

Swing slowly to see which of the problems of the check list is causing you to slice. Try using a weaker grip and see if that corrects your slice. You could try hitting shots from a side hill lie with the ball above your feet. This will get you swinging along the correct target line rather than in, up and over.

You guys are doing a great job - I am somewhat of a hacker and reading your cures are helpful, I cannot wait to try it out at the range and on the course!

i have been pragued with a slice for 20yrs!! many pros later, and i'm still doing the same thing. I'm told that i' cast',and i'm aware that the club face stays open at impact. I'm a left handeder playing right handed, and feel because my left arm is so strong(due to playing racket games,my right hand is almost superfluous, any tips?,as i'm quite a good player, but have to make allowances for the slice,in case it kicks in! and puts me in trouble, plus i'm losing so much distance
