Short Term Memory
Problem
Once you make a mistake on the course, you begin to hit poorly.
Cure
It is often hard not to dwell on your mistakes or bad shots. But once you do, you are far more likely to repeat them or lose your concentration on the following shots. Some players find that even though they just hit a bad shot, they complement themselves about their shot. Try it even if you have to pretend you hit it good. Positive thinking leads to positive playing.
Therapy
Purposely try to have a short term memory of any poor shots. Only allow your long term memory to store the good shots. This is because you are far more likely to relive the shots that you well on and invest in an emotional response to it. Get excited about every good shot and immediately think about the details about that swing. Try to run down the details of the feeling in your arms and shoulders as you took the club back and how your hands felt at impact. If you have a similar lie that day, remember these details as you visualize your next shot and address the ball.
