Short Putting Drill
Problem
You keep missing short putts and it is adding on unnecessary strokes to your game.
Cure
One very common cause is that the backswing is too long and this causes you to decelerate during your follow through. Practice making putts with as little amount of a backstroke as possible and then accelerate through the ball. Feel free to make a long follow through so that the putter head follows the intended line you wish the ball to roll. One way to help build confidence is to take your time by marking your ball and cleaning it. Imagine the ball rolling along the line and then putt with confidence.
Therapy
Arrive an hour early to the golf course and spend as much time as possible on the putting green practicing your short putts. If you are having difficulty limiting how far you bring the club back, place a tee into the ground and this will help restrict how much can move it. After you are certain that it is not your backswing causing the problem, try placing ball markers on the green about two feet away. Practice putting so that the ball stops on each marker; this will help increase your ability to focus on making short putts before you start your round.
