Short Bunker Shot Over a High Lip

Problem

Your ball is sitting up in a greenside bunker and it has a high lip to it.

Cure

Allow your forward hand to take a weak grip on the club and open the clubface a little more than you normally would for a sand shot.

Therapy

Place the ball an inch or two forward in your stance and open the clubface. Using a weak grip on the club with your forward hand, make sure that you steeply cock the club up during your backswing. You need to feel as if you are slapping the sand with your backhand during your forward swing and only allow a short follow through. This swing should pop the ball up over the lip of the bunker with a short ball flight and a soft landing.
